Primary sedimentation
After grits and other heavy particles have been removed in the preliminary steps, there is the need for settling heavy suspended solids in sedimentation tanks. This process also reduces BOD of the wastewater. Partially clarified water is then introduced into biological, secondary treatment for removal of organic material and nutrients while sediment sludge is removed pumped to downstram sludge treatment.
